Any recommendations?

I don't want to spend mega money but also not a 12v Halfords job.

There seems to be loads on Ebay about £50.

I don't mind spending a bit more but I am unlikely to use it regularly.

How much correction do you need to do? I had a Megs polisher back in the day and it didnt seem to have enough oomph for decent correction, but they are regarded as the safe option. I got a silverline orange rotary and havent looked back since, i would say you have to be a complete hamfisted fool to do damage with a rotary. I think i paid £35 then spent a decent amount on some 3M pads of varying softness.

Not much, basically a red car that has oxidised. Not that bad really, I had ago with some T-cut and the results were very good. I would just like to go slightly deeper.

This.

I went from an utterly useless "buffer" (you know, the cheap plastic type you get from Halfords or similar) to a Silverline rotary, not looked back since. I even practiced on an old door from my Seat Leon, it takes some real ham-fistedness combined with not moving the pad at all, and drying out the polish completely before I did any irreparable damage to the panel.
