No, not a spec me a car thread, sorry.

I'm intending to buy a second hand car, hopefully in the next week or two, and I'm probably going to a dealer to buy one. I've got some questions through. I've identied a few cars I'm interested in on Autotrader, and I'd like to go and test drive them. How is insurance normally covered for this? Do you test it on the dealers insurance somehow, or are they expecting you to have cover? I don't have any.

Also a lot of the adverts mention the cars having MOT but not tax. Should I expect the car to come taxed, or will I have to arrange this on top. And finally if I do decide I want the car does the garage normally keep hold of it for a short period whilst I arrange insurance?

Cheers.

If you go to a dealers they usually have Insurance covering you. You will probably need to take your license with you; although they only sometimes check and if you drove there then they're usually happy with that.

If it's private, then you'd need insurance. Although I've never known a private seller actually check.
