Car cleaning - what should I buy?

Ok so I just bought a Ford Fiesta ST in Performance Blue - cant wait to pick it up on monday!

However, Ive only ever owned pretty standard cars before, so have only used standard car wash stuff and a sponge to give it a quick wash.

What do I need to buy to keep the car looking great?
 
Meguiars do a nice range of products. OcUK sell some on their range at pretty good prices.

I would get:

Meguiar's NXT Car Wash
Meguiar's Quick Clay Detailing System
Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax
Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner
Meguiar's Luxurious Lambs Wool Wash Mitt
Meguiar's Ultra-Safe Wheel Spoke Brush
Meguiar's Water Magnet Drying Towel
Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfibre
Meguiar's Foam Applicator Pads (Twin Pack)

That's what I would get as a start. There are other brands but Meguiars are the most readily available and are sold at most motor shops.

Check out Detailing World, they are very helpful and can show you other products.

Nice choice of car too ;)

Wow thats quite a lot of stuff there!

Whats the good bare necessities to keep the car looking great? Dont have too much cash to spend on all that gear!

Indeed, I just got a little carried away. I definetly recommend you get the clay in 6 months or so though, you'd be surprised how much crap actually sticks to your paintwork after a while, although giving the car a regular wash will help with that. Get the applicator pads as they are very useful for applying the wax, and then a microfibre for buffing it off.

I find stuff like Tesco microfibre cloths pretty damn good VFM when you want decent clothes etc without wanting to spend a fortune.

Did part of my car with claybar and NXT wax, was proper suprised how dirty the quick detailer liquid became after using the claybar, its also ace for lifting tar. Superb smooth finish after :D
