Car competitions anyone won?

I don't know anyone that's won on them. Come to think of it, I don't know anyone that won anything significant really that I can remember.

What is to stop them from fixing the draw and it going to a mate? I saw Matt Armstrong do a live draw with a random number generator which looked legit but could easily be faked.

Entered one of these over xmas (against my better judgement) after being bombarded with ads, think I put 30 quid down across multiple competitions - My first and last time gambling.. there's zero joy in watching money disappear, no matter much dreaming you do in anticipation of that ticket draw email :D

I put £30 in for 812SF that dreamcargiveaways had a few weeks back, had some nice dreams of Ferrari V12 goodness but then accepted I would just take the money anyway :D Of course, I didnt actually win...

I've bought a few tickets now and then, against my own good judgement.

I reckon this industry is absolutely rife with fraud. How would you prove it though?

Classic Car Competitions for example has had a instances of the winner "not being able to take the car" for xyz reason so it's up for raffle again, as well as a few who have "sold the car back to them". Dodgy AF.

It can only be a matter of time before unlicensed profit making lotteries are clamped down on and the thin veil of "it's skill based" because you asked entrants if 'car' is spelled c-a-r or c-a-t is stamped out.

And completely ruin a business that is almost printing money for them... 100% not worth it.

Yeah Dave on facebook raffling off his old Rolex maybe but the likes of Elite, 7Days, BOTB etc have a decent business going.

Elite are campaigning for more legislation on these sites to help with consumer trust

I've purchased the odd ticket here and there for these sort competitions, I've never won anything though.

That said, my wife won a PS5 on one that is run by the hairdressers (yes, our local hairdressers has one of these websites). Seems they are super easy to setup with services like Rafflex.

It's an interesting point because it's basically gambling. Even the school raffle is effectively so.

I won a Mini Cooper JCW from Revcomps back in 2023. Traded it in for a slightly newer one which I subsequently traded for a M135i and now in a Polestar 2.

Helped me a lot!

EDIT - I should add the odds were a lot better then. I rarely enter them now.

I won a 2021 KTM Super Duke R from The Giveaway Guys at the end of 2022. Was a nice Christmas present! Cost me £9 in tickets.

Sold it after a few months to a local dealer. Half of it purchased a 2017 Suzuki GSX-S750 which I got on with a lot more. And the rest went in to the mortgage as an overpayment.

What's the score with the questions? I've bought a few tickets from one of these sites but didn't have a "skill based" question. I thought this was a legal requirement? Am I missing something?

Do you know vaguely how much they’ve spent on tickets over the years? I’m curious more than anything else.
I believe the chap who won the GT3 it was his first time playing and stuck £10 worth of tickets on. The guy who won the Rolex has spent quite a lot on those types on competitions though and has since. I think regularly spends £20/30 a month on them.

£30 a month is still at the 'bit of fun' level. Plenty of folks dropping that a day of money they really can't afford chasing losses and winning nowt.
