Hi,

Has anyone had a similar issue or know where I stand legally requesting a CCTV check.

Long and short my car was damaged while parked in the car park at work, the owners of the office building usually check CCTV for instances like this if no one owns up but I've asked for three times now and my request is being ignored.

I want to identify the person that damaged my car and then take it to HR to see what can be done to retrieve costs for repair.

Thanks

I thought it was only the Police and the insurance company that could request the footage. Thats what we get told and I work for the NHS, something to do with data protection, the usual blah blah blah.

I am not sure mate, I only know about our place as a nurse got her car bumped and asked the same question and was told only the police or insurance company could request it.

I think it's probably the same issue. Are there no signs up stating "Vehicles parked at owner's risk" or something similar?

They won't be able to tell you who did it and I'm not even sure they would tell that to HR either.

Cant say I've noticed any myself, looks like I'm taking it on the chin this time, its happened before but the person owned up and it got sorted

Make a freedom of information request for the footage for the day showing the period required and hope it covers your arrival and departure with the bit in the middle.

It's not freedom of information as that legislation covers information not about individuals from public bodies.

You need to make a subject access request from whoever is listed on the CCTV signs as running the scheme. Be precise in your request (time/day/location) and specifically mention this is a subject access request regarding the footage they hold regarding you and your car (don't mention that you want footage of someone damaging your car). They can make a small charge (at least until 25th may when the GDPR regulations come into force). If they ignore it or refuse, contact the information commissioner and complain. https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/cctv/
