Hello all,

My bro wants to get a new car for when he is home. He has a 997 911 and.....a smart car! His other half drives the latter, but it's old and just a bit rubbish. It's also tiny and no use to transport anything, likewise the 911.

£16kish. I've said something Toyota or maybe a ford focus? Basically he just needs something reliable that isn't a worry when he is abroad half of the year...

Ideas please!

Plenty of choice in that price range.

Number of BMWs.
Jag XE or XF.
Audi A4's with decent mileage in that price range.
Volvo S60 or S90.
Most manufacturers have a mid size saloon or small suv for that type of money tbh. Depend really what type he wants.

I wouldn't touch a ford these days with those eco boost engines.

Screams Golf to me, pretty much a perfect daily :)

They also want something reliable .

Also a lot of modern cars don't like sitting around for 6 months, EVs a bit better in this regard. Slightly older Volvos often seem relatively unbothered if not used in awhile.

Careful with the A4 auto boxes, if it's not the 3.0 diesel or 3.0tfsi with the zf 8hp box then there take on the dsg box and is unreliable and requires specialist servicing which is expensive.
