Car fire - insurance

Read mine and it makes no distinction between various causes of a fire.

Just read the latest Axa policy wording. Even in general exclusions there isn't anything to give them a get out clause.

They would have to prove you deliberately caused the damage, which obviously you didn't.

edit:

Actually Section A Damage exclusions does have it. Sorry. Although does that apply to a Section B F&T claim?

Sent pictures to them of the damage (and the rest of the car). They'll decide if it's repairable or write off.

Pictures aren't working for me.

tbh if thats the extent of the damage it may pay you to visit a breakers and buy a length of the loom and the plastics and repair it.

i know it looks bad but providing the damage is what we can see (as regards the wiring there will be more damage further) its not un repairable.
in fact when i was in business it would have been a normal repair for a customer.

if you dont want to get involved and the insurance get squemish just sell it as damage repairable it will sell especially with a 12 month ticket.

For future reference, anybody reading this thread, a fire damaged car can easily lead to being a Cat B (will never see the road again) because the structure of the metal (chassis) being "compromised".. From the picture I saw of a bit of burnt boot lining and cable on a 15yr old BMW I can't agree that it was even worth a call to the insurers given the effect on premiums regardless of a payout now..

Brief update. Everything is going much slower than I'd like :-(

My broker is Swinton. Who outsource their call centre to Carpenters (think that's the correct spelling). My insurance is with AXA who outsource the investigation to Sedwick. And the inspection of the car is via Hooper's engineering. Trying to liaise with all these companies is a pain.

And on the advice of my insurance company, I've contacted BMW who may also want to examine my vehicle as it appears this very issue was the subject of a recall. So potentially BMW pay out and I keep my no claims in tact, but unsure on that.
