My sister has just written off her Rover 25 so is after a new car.

Budget £4-4.5k
Mainly town driving but must "feel safe" on the motorway
Cheap to run and insure
"Nothing bigger than a 1.4" (I had to mention it but feel free to ignore)
Likes the look of the Leon, Ibiza, A3, Clio.

The only real issue is insurance. She is 30 but has 3 claims in the last 3 years (2 write offs) so nothing that will upset insurance companies can be considered.

I'd say you couldn't go wrong with an Ibiza for her. I know a few girls with these and they love them to bits :)

Looking at trader you *should* be able to pick up a 1.4 new shape in some sort of trim level for £4.5k.

That or a Clio imo :)

Leon and a3 will be way overpriced and pretty sluggish with smaller engines.

My bet would be ibiza as above or even a 206, add the clio in the mix too, any of them have nice revvy 1.4 powerplants, and pretty decent levels of equipment.

I've got an Ibiza :)

The one I have is an X reg (so Mark 3) 1.4 .cool/s - bought it for £3k with 38,000 miles on the clock. Came with climate control, CD changer control (although some may come with the changer, just not mine :( ), alloys on some, and that's about it lol :D

I do a fair whack on the motorway and while it runs out of puff at about 90, I find it enough for my needs. Cruising at 70-75 on the M6 is a breeze, and will do it all day, no complaints. Feels a solidly built small hatchback that I'll hopefully keep for a few years.

Costs about £45 from dry to fill up and with that I'll get about 330 miles to a tank, or 360-370 if I'm not lead-footed :)
