I'm after a new car for the Mrs as her Matiz is on its last legs.

Seen a 10 plate Hyundai i20 with only 18k on the clock and one lady owner with 12 months warranty from a main dealer for 4k.

What are the opinions on the i20 here?

Nowt wrong with the i20. One lady owner though, Urgh. It'll need a new clutch already!

Yeh, I thought the i20 was pretty decent.

Hopefully with only 18k miles she hasn't had enough time to trash the clutch :p

Will have a look at it this afternoon....

Moving from a Matiz, then an i20 should be pretty good.

For £4k I think you would struggle to get anything better (e.g. the equivalent Fiestas, Corsas etc at that price are older or higher mileage).

I had a Hyundai i30 as a courtesy car the other week, and couldn't really fault it - drove nicely and had plenty of kit - the only thing I didn't like was the interior was a bit "fussy " compared to the equivalent Ford or Vauxhall.

Thanks for the info :)

I think it's only the basic 1.2 classic model, so not many toys.

But she only really uses her car to hack up and down the dual carriageway to work and back.

I think this will be ideal. let's face it, anything is better than a Matiz :p

Fingers crossed nobody beats me to it...

Wouldn't a better spec'ed car with a few more miles and a slightly bigger engine be better?

Seems like you're paying a premium to get a very low mileage car with a low spec and the slowest engine.

Autotrader seems to suggest you can pick these up for about £3-4k with under 60k miles, in any trim with the 1.4 engine.

I know what you're saying and I agree.

But she's not interested in extra toys and performance, she just wants a basic reliable car with plenty of use left in it.

The fact that this one is at a main dealer with a 12 month warranty is a big plus.

As long as it is in good condition, we will probably take it.

If it's a main dealer, then maybe they'll have a few others to compare and test drive back to back.

We recently bought my wife a Ford C-Max, Tested a 1.6 n/a zetec which is there basic spec model and she loved it. But it was dog slow and I refused to buy it. Ended up with a 1.6 ecoboost titanium and it was over £1k cheaper.

I'd definately encourage her to test a few other cars before buying the first one you see

Got her a 62 plate Clio with 39k on the clock for £4.6k in the end. It's in superb condition and has a 12 month main dealer warranty. Happy with that.

I learned to drive in an i20. Not too bad to be honest and there are quite a few around for the price you're looking at.
