Hi

I am after a cheap car for work in London. I am under 15 miles away and I am paying about £150 in rail a month, so I am thinking a car may be a bit more expensive, but more fun.

I was looking (I thought I'd never say this) a smart car, but I am looking for cheapest as they come to run and insure. I have about 1.5k to spend.

Thanks :)

No fun driving around London at commuter times. Personally if its only costing you £150 a month let the train take the strain!
My commute from Kent to Canary Wharf area can take anything from 50 mins(pre 6am) to 2.5 hours if I leave home at 7am. I have to drive as I have a company car and am home based.

I work 12 miles away from home, yes I may not have a very economical car but even I pay more than that in petrol alone per month, take the train!

Just to point out, in case you haven't done it yourself, if you're doing a 30 mile trip - 5 days a week just on work alone, that's roughly 650 miles a month. On a car with 30MPG that's pretty much going to cost you exactly £150 a month just on petrol/diesel alone. So really the cost difference is going to end up potentially being multiples of what you currently pay when you factor in insurance/tax/servicing.
