Car got Keyed

A couple of weeks ago someone for a reason oblivious to me decided to key my car from front to back. Starting at the bonnet, onto the passenger door and finishing at the rear quarter panel. The rear quarter panel scratch didn't get through the clear coat though and can be polished out. However the rest needs to be resprayed. I reported it to the police and am still debating about getting it done on insurance or coughing up myself. I don't want to lose my NCB but had one quote of £900, which was at a discounted rate.
I took it to a smart repairer who wouldn't touch it, but said said to just get it done on insurance and get BMW to do it because when they remove all the seals from the doors to respray they can be a pig to get back in.
It's taken me 2 weeks calm down enough to post this, I'm still unbelievably ****** off.

LOL no that's not mine! Was thinking about it when I wrote it though.

I parked in a quiet residential area near work, however I have parked there for over a year and had no problems with anyone, and usually chat to the neighbours there in the mornings. I believe it was done there, but I didn't notice it until the next morning in my car park, which is underground, secured and has CCTV.

Sorry to hear this, someone did something similar to one side of my BMW yesterday, luckily it looked like they used something blunt like a stick instead of a key and it didn't cut through the paint properly. 30 minutes with the tcut and good as new!

Some insurance company's do vandalism protection were you pay the excess but don't lose your NCB, double check if you have that on your policy.

I'd go BMW (or the workshop they use) on insurance. Z4s were top of the vandalised list on an article a year or so ago and in my head I sort of expect it to happen to mine too some day. I have a repair on my e89 which I only recently found out about (rear quarter rubbing on tail lights - turns out the panel has had a small paint repair and is out of alignment) and this was missed by a paint inspection I had done. The quality of the repair according to the tech was amazing and he only realised it was a repair after checking overspray behind part of the boot trim so I hope the results are similar for you when you get it done.

Not the most reliable source but the Daily Mail said that last year the Z4 was the 2nd most frequently vandalised car model, and the average repair fee is £972. Seriously hoping yours is less than this!

A couple of weeks ago, I was a passenger in the car while my wife drove a 20 minute journey on moderately busy roads. She got cut up three times, all by different BMWs, for no reason other than the drivers were being dicks.

For some reason, people have a grudge against BMW drivers, so you all get tarred by the same brush, and vandals like to target BMW cars.

I wouldn't give them the credit for thinking about it that much at all.

I parked my old VXR on a side street where I lived for 2 years. One day spent a good time cleaning it so it looked all nice in the sun and the next morning it had a key scratch down the length of the car.
My misses C2 also got done on the same road.

There just mindless selfish **insert insult**'s

This does indeed seem the opinion of a lot of people i talk too, a minor reason against me getting an e46 M3 as my next car is the 'BMW ******' image that goes with it :( i don't want to be 'that guy in the emmmfreeeee'

Then don't get one. Do a survey and buy a car from the manufacturer people like most. Maybe you'll end up with a nice Ford KA and rest assured that everyone on the road will see you coming and wave and smile at you.

Or... You could ignore the irrational and often jealous people who come up with this "BMW drivers are idiots" guff and get the car you want.

I've recently been flashed when overtaking more times in the past 2 weeks than I have done in 9 years of driving. All overtakes were absolutely spot on and I'd do them again in a heartbeat. But you can bet every single one of those 40mph hero's mutterred to themselves "blood BMW driver" when I went passed, thus reinforcing this image they have invented of BMW drivers in their small brain.

I get flashed by slow drivers all the time in mine when I do a safe overtake, glad it's not just me :D

Spoken like a true BMW ****** :)

Well i do drive a Toyota Yaris and do enjoy the friendly smiles, waves, hugs and regular free gifts from 'green' types :)

On the other hand i also drive a modded, lowered subaru Impreza with black chav wheels, a mahoosive spoiler and a dustbin exhaust so hey ho.. Still for some reason the chav image doesn't bother me as much as the BMW image.

Well, I got a quote from BMW for £1500; which would be done at their authorised bodyshop in Reading, Prestige. This was for a full bonnet respray, NS door respray, and blending into the wing and rear NS quarter panel.

I got a second quote from an independent bodyshop called Rivermead, who was recommended to me by the local BMW specialist in Reading. They are also approved Fiat and Vauxhall repairers. They want £574, but would only paint the side of the bonnet that was affected, and blend it into the rest of the bonnet. Everything else would be done as the BMW quote and the paint (not official BMW) and work comes with a 3 year warranty.

My excess is £600 (£300 voluntary was really stupid in hindsight), so I think I will be going with these guys. I might be compromising my 12 year anti corrosion warranty, but the bonnet is aluminium apparently, so it would just be the door skin that may (very unlikely) be compromised.

Same here, I drive my wife's Yaris if we're both going out or when I can't bothered to get the SX out of the garage. I suspect the drivers that pull up next to me at the traffic lights trying to burn me off get a bit of a surprise when the opposite happens and that I'm not an eco-friendly, cardigan wearing biddy.

Funny that the Ka should be mentioned, though, as when I see one of those driving around, I stay the **** away as they're bloody lethal.

Don't get me started on Micra and Jazz drivers :p.

Back to the OP, I feel your pain mate as my SX was driven into when it was parked outside my house 2 weekends ago and I'm left with a massive dent in the front wing and cracked paintwork :(
