I've got an old 1992 200SX. In 1996 I had a Sony CD player put in it. Today I'm trying to replace it, and surprise surprise the connectors have changed standard.

Below are the two images... Any suggests what I do :(

Here's the existing plug to the old stereo (you can see in the background you can see what seem to be converters from the old system to its format of plug):-

Here's the new plug for the new stereo:-

That sony lead has ISO connections, so either get an ISO converter for your car, get a converter for your car > sony or get busy with a soldering iron and some heat-shrink.

You have 3 wires to power a stereo (live, always live and negative)
You also have speaker outputs.
You might have sub, electric aerial etc. ignore unless you have them.

Work out which ones are which on the loom, then on the car (use a multimeter for testing wires on the car). Then connect up with bullet connectors.
Costs less than a quid for a pack of bullet connectors. (or you can solder / heatshrink it if you're not lazy like me)
It's a bit of a bodge way but it works fine and thats the way i've always done it.

I don't see the point of bodging it that way when there are simple adapters available for under a tenner. Far more reliable and much easier/quicker to install.

Not really, drive to motorists discount (what the place i go to is called), spend £1, buy bullet connectors, park round corner, fit stereo in about 10 minutes, go buy a kfc with the money saved and munch that badboy with some music playing.

Better than going into halfrauds, they told me about £20 for an adaptor on mine, i told them to stick it up their ****.

once you know which adapter it is who says you have to buy off Halfords?

can get most online for a few quid

dont buy from halfords, I bought adapters for the exact same car (sony to iso, iso to kenwood) for £5.50 delivered, halfords wanted almost £40 for the same thing, its a joke!

So what, if you can easily fit a stereo quickly for the cost of the connectors, pence, then why buy a more expensive adapter and have to wait days for it to arrive to install your stereo.
It does the same job doesn't it?
