Hi all,
Got a bit of a stupid question...I'm off to California on a road trip soon and have hired a car from Alamo but I cant decide if I should purchase insurance for the excess - usually I do but from reading the terms it appears it may have been included on the policy direct, this is what's included:
"What is included
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Third-Party Liability (TPL)
Theft Protection (TP)
Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)
Uninsured Motorist Protection (UMP)
Homeland Security Charge
Local Taxes
Premium Location Surcharge
Unlimited kilometres
Up to 3 Additional Drivers aged 25 or over included."
and heres the additional blurb on the excess:
"Deposit / Excess Amounts
The car has a theft excess of US$ 0.00 including tax.
The car hire company will not require a deposit when you pick your car up.
There is no excess for the coverage provided by the car hire company’s CDW policy.
The damage excess only applies to parts of the car that are covered by your car’s Collision Damage Waiver policy. If other parts of the car (such as windscreen, tyres and undercarriage) are damaged, you will pay the full repair cost.
There is no excess for the coverage provided by the car hire company’s CDW policy.
Due to fluctuating foreign exchange rates and other possible banking charges, the car hire company cannot be held responsible for any difference between the amount paid and the amount refunded."
Would welcome any advice on whether I should bother with car hire excess - would rather not waste £50 if I don't need to
Many thanks
