We have a 09 Mitsubishi colt and have misplaced the key, however the spare will not start the car (it will try but cut out, but assuming the connection with the immobiliser is screwed)...are there any known online stores or will I need somebody to come out and remap the key to the immobiliser?

just put auto locksmiths north west into search engine and got loads come up....ive never used any of them as if im stuck i have a local guy (midlands) .
should be relatively straightforward, is the spare a remote? and does it work? at a push may need a new battery or hold lock button on it down for a few seconds to resyncronize.

if push comes to shove theres always mitsubishi themselves order from v5 could be costly but maybe not need programming . have done this a few times with later bms and mercs .

In Stockport but covers the North West. Used them before and had no issues.

have you called dealer ... some (bmw did) do hold reserve keys pre-encoded for the specific cars immobiliser avoiding any need to re-program cars system,
so negligible labour cost involved, just a more expensive key.

odd, if its trying to start, have you checked the battery / charged the battery ?
id do that first
then look at keys

i bought a blank key off ebay (with the electronics in) and coded it myself via an online guide (which you do in the ignition) on my Focus

generally if the car starts then cuts out after a second or two it means the immobiliser isnt programmed. i have bought cars with a second key that opens the doors and turns the ignition on but wont allow it to run ,
dont quote me but im pretty sure the key will need programming with a machine to the car.
if its just a key with a transponder and it was the original that came with the car from new try putting it in the ignition and leaving the ignition on for a hour.
i had a tt at the garage once that forgot its second key and sods law the main key decided to stop working. so was told to leave it in the ignition foe a few hours and hey presto it reactivated.
just a thought.

What did you need to program yourself?

probably wont help in this case ,but my immobiliser used to refuse to work in hot or damp weather ,left me stranded for an hour or so twice ,instead of trying to tackle the many causes i had an immobiliser delete ,weirdly i still randomly get the light and pretty sure its a dodgy solder contact in the dash ,the firm based in Huddersfield have an ecu swap on ebay but i went in person
