Car leasing

Two posts in one day, although this one is about me :o

I've been given a car allowance at work and need to sort a car one way or another. My current car is very high mileage and requires a bit of spend in the immediate future so I would be looking to replace in any case. There is no scheme at work, it will be something I need to sort personally.

I've been thinking car leasing is the way to go, however I will be doing high miles, approx 20-25k a year so not sure if this will be a deciding factor in whether leasing will be cost effective?

What companies should I be looking at? I've done the usual google and have come across what looks like the main ones, but was after advice on how to get the best deal! Are there any schemes where you can re-negotiate a different car if you start doing mega miles?

Ideally I would like a hatchback and a Diesel.

My allowance works out at about 280£ a month but I don't mind putting some to it really.

Any advice?

£280 isn't going to get you far per month at 25k miles per year unless you also get a decent rate per mile

I was in a similar situation however higher mileage and had £510 a month to work with. I decided to buy a 54 plate Volvo S60 D5. I am better off each month and the car will have paid for itself in 2 years max. Alternatively there is some fantastic prices on the late mk3 Mondeos at the moment.

Yeah I get 40p mile for first 10k, and then 22p (I think?) for anything after.

Not sure whether to go down the loan route and buy a car outright.

Still unsure what to do really, - whether to go the loan route and buy a second hand car. Not really sure what to look at or for, except for it being a diesel!?

Going to take a drive around a couple of dealers next week I think.

Some helpful advice above guys - thanks. Gave me a better idea.

Regarding the last poster, - I did have the mileage costs in the back of my mind but putting it down on paper highlights it much better. Thanks.

I've come across this deal;

Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi 16v (92bhp) SR Hatchback 5dr 1560cc (Diesel, Manual, Non-metallic)

£250 per month, 20k mileage, 3 years.

Should I be looking harder?

Not looking for anything glam, just something that will provide me trouble free motoring! I'd ideally prefer a 2 year deal but hey ho.

£10k over 3 years (Assuming 3+36) to hire a crap diesel Peugeot with 92bhp?

lolololol. I'd rather buy a £2k Volvo.

Do you have an idea of what I should be looking to get then?

My only real criteria is a Diesel of some sort (preferably a hatch?)

Or is just just tell tale of car leasing and would you guys shy away from it?

I can probably get a nice second car in a couple of months as the girlfriends main car, so I really am only fussed about having a reliable motor, preferably where I don't have to **** a brick every time the MOT comes around :p:o:(
