Car making a weird noise

Hi was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me here:

A couple of weeks ago I was driving and crashed into a kerb. sounds stupid I know but it was either that or the back of someone else, and no I wasn't driving like and idiot I was in a national speed zone on 2 lanes so the limit is 70. I was driving round the corner and the traffic was backed up for some reason so slammed the brakes on but was still skidding towards the car so I steered towards the kerb so i didnt hit them (nearly got 1years ncb and didnt want to throw that away)

Anyways i thought i must have burst the tyre or something but everything seemed fine when i looked at it and everything but in this past week my car has been making a weird noise. It sounds like something is rubbing up against something underneath all the time when either driving in a straight line or turning right but when i turn left it seems to go away. It also makes a loud screeching noise now and then when im pulling away with revs less than 2000 and going less than 5mph so unless i rev it over to pull away it keeps making that noise.

Now it was the left tyre i hit the kerb with and the noise is on the right hand side and my mate seems to think i might have bent something to the right for it to make this noise which does seem logical or i might have done something to the barings. I managed to book it in for it to be checked but thats not till next wednesday.

I was just wondering if anyone had, had a similar noise on theirs or any idea what it could be and how much it may be to get fixed?

any help would be appreciated thanks

could be all sorts mate, any number of suspension components could have been damaged by hitting a kerb.

Equally it could be a complete co-incidence and it could be something completely unrelated.

Only way to know for sure is to get it booked into a garage to get it looked at

The other alternative is to get it jacked up and have a look round the back of the wheel and see if you can find anything that looks loose by giving the wheel a good push ?

hmmm.

you can end up swapping a lot to get it straight from that if its not obvious.

if the wheel is sitting out of place in the arch its perhaps wishbone time, or even subframe.

etc etc etc

My ex's micra was rattled off a kerb at considerable speed (maybe 40-50?). n/s wheel sits forward in the arch, just got it realigned so it doesn't pull. still passes.

Wheel sits in perfect allignment as to what it used to i think. Never really paid to much attention to what it used to be like when i got it off my mam. It probably hit it at that speed roughly. Would say at least 25/30mph when i hit the kerb

So I'm guessing you have a knackered left front bearing and probably a bent track rod/wishbone/strut (take your pick).

No how much they roughly cost to get fixed? Dont get paid till a week on monday so might need to see if the bank will allow me to extend my overdraft till i get paid

Screeching noise sounds like a slipping fan belt perhaps. Can sometimes happen when the weather gets colder.

You were driving too fast by the way. Doesnt matter what the limit is, you should only drive as fast as you can see. Thats why all the other drivers were just backed up and not strewn across the road like you were ;)

I hope thats all the screetching noise is but the other noise is really irratating when i drive. Yeah but i wasnt expecting it, it was midday with no rush hour and i drive the road quite a lot and that is the 1st time i have ever seen it backed up that far. Didnt say i wasnt driving to fast, just that wasnt been an idiot and that i was speeding*

*going over the speed limit like the typical "boy racer" stereotype that i will probably get if people look at my age on my profile. I drive a Hyundai Getz, not really a boy racer car if i say so myself

On another note i was just pleased to avoid the other car which i thought i managed to do quite well and never go that fast in that place again just incase its backed up again

Ok so just thought id keep you upto date with what happened. Took it to the garage and it turned out that my brake pads where ****ed so they had to replace them, They also said that they couldnt find out what the problem was with the loud squeaky noise as it didnt occur for them but it hadnt for a couple of days for me either so hopefully thats fixed its self. Cost me £125 to get the break pads replaced and the back ones to be cleaned and lubricated. Just pleased it didnt cost me an arm and a leg

I hit a curb at 15-20mph and it bent the subframe along with the whole front end of the car. I learnt the expensive way, had to get it straightened out :(

My brother clipped an inside curb which then made him skid across the road and buckle his other wheel on the opposite curb. New wheels, new subframe. The works.

Spanner.

I would have done that for £120.......lol

your lucky curbing the car at some speed can cost a lot more:cool:

Sorry to use you as the example, but... this is the scenario where a decent tyre is useful and is exactly what you can avoid if your tyres stop 2 car lengths sooner, ie, if you had a Potenza instead of a Kumho KU31 ;)

Just a handy example to remember next time people in the tyre thread bleat that 2 car lengths is nothing :p

Yeah i know i was very lucky that it didnt cost a lot more than that. To be honest i thought it must have been something serious and could have cost me a fortune. That extra £5 doesnt really matter to me. I always use this garage because i know they do the job properly and dont rip me off. For example when i went to pay the phone lines where down when i went to use my card because of the weather and just said to me come back tomorrow or the next day when they are working again

I have just had new tires put on about 3 to 4 months ago so the tread isnt bad on them. Yes they might not be the best put i have just finished college and am a christmas temp working at argos. I cant really choose to pick the expensive decent pairs of tyres.
