Hi i have a question but been told so many answers

My parents want to give me and my otherhalf there old car as they have bought a new one.

They want to give us the car but they want the car to go in my name as the registered car owner even tho i cant drive but my otherhalf can drive and he would have to insure it and raodtax and keep it.

So is that allowed

me being regisrted car owner on paper but other half being liscense holder and insureance holder and main driver it

if you understand what i mean

can i be car owner even tho i cant drive and my other half be the registered keeper and pay for its running cost

AFAIK you can only do this if your other half is actually your other half - ie, married to you. Otherwise, most insurers require the vehicle is in the name of the policyholder.

Yep, I've enquired about this before, the registered keeper must be the policyholder unless married. Something to do with if the car was written off they would have to issue a cheque to the registered keeper.

Not married and I was until recently the owner of my partners car, she never had any problems insuring it. Last insurer was elephant and one before that was directline. We did live together at same address os I dunno if that made a difference?

You can do it even if your not married. We did it earlier in the year with the Audi which was registered in my name but with my other half insuring it fully comp(she had her maiden name at the time).

Must depend on the insurer then.

Owning a car and being a registered keeper of a car are 2 different things iirc.

The 2 are normally and "obviously" intertwined. But they can be seperated using a seperate contract which draws out who owns what without the need for Marriage.

Thats weird as I said none of them required that earlier in the year for us.

No maybe not but we went through 8-10 quotes online.

Wish I had found these tbh, then i wouldnt have had the hassle of changing ownership on my car >.> Ecar who im with require you to be the owner or married to for a policy

The only problem we had with the policy was Helens business mileage a lot of them qouted silly money for that. Privilege were really cheap with it added though.
