car reg transfer help!

Does anybody know how long it takes to transfer a private reg from one car to another?

I know i have to fill out a v317 form and include both car registration certificate's and include £80. Can i take this to my closest dvla office to speed things up?

Basically I have put a deposit down on a new car, i want to sell mine privatly but i have my private reg on the car. So i was planning on transfering it to my dad's car for a while and in a few months transfer it back to my new car.

Has anyone any experience of a similar situation wh could advise?
 
Normally if you take it in, you can get the plates switched there and then, but it'll be about 10 days before you get the V5 back.

Also, if you're switching it back in a few months, it would be better to spend £105 and put it on retention rather than two lots of £80 transfer fees.

does that not mean i have to pay another £80 to put it back on a car?
