Right here is my problem!

I bought a rover metro L reg it was about 2 weeks and it was a minter bought it from a subaru dealer and everything was great only 60k, got my friend whos a fully qualified mechanic to have a look at it and he said it was great, started first time everything was great really good engine on it, drove nit around for a week and I won a fiat panda on ebay lol

so i decided to sell the metro because i cant have 2 poop cars to run around in so I sold it to a school friend for a cheap price, its tax and mot were due to run out next month ni said i could have put it through but she werent bothered....

Now the thing is the V5 aint came back from DVLA yet as i had just bought it so I just gave her the little new keeper slip that I got when I bought the car, my friend was there and she agreed to fill in the form as soon as I got it back.

Now she phones me yesterday saying that the car is puffing out grey smoke out the back and the whole engine is Broken and she apparently got a mechanic to look at it in the space of what 30 mins....

so I said there cant be nothing serious wrong with it because the engine was mint, so I asked her what signs were there of stuff before it started puffing out black smoke she said nothing,,, im like err are you sure you bhave put the choke back in and checked all the oil e.t.c she said whats a "choke"

so she said she filled it up with oil the other day and she dont know what oil she put in it and then admitted putting too much oil in it and overflowing it..

now she said the whole engine is Still broken, like my account for the next few days and the mechanic has said that strange i think she just dont have a clue and trying to do a runner because shes so stupid...

i agreed i will take my friend and have a look to see what she has done, but what leg do i stand on because i never had the V5 signed and dated due to DVLA still having it when i bought the car but it was witnessed by my mate?

any ideas sorry for the long writing lol hope soneone can help me out

v5 is only the registered keeper, not the owner of the vehicle.

If she has done what you said i don't why you are even going to have a look. She's broke it she can fix it

Overfilled it with Oil!?! :p

Probably covered the engine in it, and is smoking away under the bonnet.

If you bought it from a garage does it not have a warranty on it? Not your problem mate, bought as SEEN!

nothing to do with you, but as she is a friend, check the oil level, if overfilled drain it and refil to correct level.you may get away with it.
we had a customer who checked his oil and found it needed to be topped up, bought 5 litres and filled it. fine for about 30 seconds then clouds of smoke. rac fetched him in and after we reset the levels it took about 4 hours of ticking over and occasional revving to clear all the oil.

right ive had a right night tonight let me tell you the story...

I went tonight with my mate who is a mechanic and decided to sort stuff out with her but the lass I sold it too was just standing there and her friends mother who she bought the car for totally took over and having a go saying you knew it was broke you ripped her off e.t.c. and wouldnt let me speak, now the girl who i sold it to I wanted to talk to her alone I didnt need this psycho women getting involved, I started it up my mate had a look took it round the block and drove fine engine was great no smoke what so ever as she said..

she she i shouldnt **** with her and im like erm I never sold the car to you so why you getting involved ??

but this crazy women is saying its all down to her to get sorted with her but I never even sold it to her and the expect the money back tommorow!

They said they had 2 mechanics look and said the engine was blown but funny how there was no engineer reports on paper and the car was fine, she also had a go at my mate saying you are no mechanic even though his been working at audi 4 years and got very good certificates and qualifications...

Now there is nothing wrong with the car but i sold it to the girl and legally its down to me to sort out with her and no one else involved but her friends mother seems to think its her prolem now..

what a situation in selling a perfectly good metro eh!

What should i do guys?
I am goin to DVLA tommorow to sort out the V5 just to say that its been sold but the current owner is refuses to sign the paper so I need it transferred to her name, so much hassle over £180 ... it was a great car i bought it from a subaru dealer but she still thinks she has 7 days after a private sale to demand money back if its not working corrently even though it is!!

help me please :(

Legally you don't have to do anything, private used car sales are buyer beware (with the exception of false advertising)

However as she's a friend, is your friendship worth risking over £180?

Is it wrong for me to laugh at that Insert. :p

Anyways when you get back.
You have two choices, either tell her where to go and take whatever comes after or give the buyer there money back.
Rocket science it's not.

just another point.... i hope the op can still read these or its pointless. but i would make sure if you do give her , the money back you get her to sign and date a proper reciept as to when she returned the car right down to the time.
how do you know she hasnt been through a speed camera or committed a criminal offence with the car.

tbh £180...are you sure you want her as a friend? :(

An L reg car won't have a choke...

(btw... points and laughs at you getting suspended ;))

Im back hehe

Anyway ive heard nothing since from them so hopefully its all sorted and I proved them wrong that there was nothing wrong with the engine, phoned DVLA and they said its nothing they can do just send the form off with a letter saying why they have not signed it and it will be transferred to her.

job done I wonder if they will be a aftermath though lol il keep you updated

Nothing worse than a mentaly unstable, gobby tart who thinks everything can be solved by application of enough shouting and screeching. Nuke her from space tbh.

Hopefully you've heard the end of it. TBH you've got more patience than me. As soon as gobby moo started I'd have just turned the other way and left :o

An L reg Metro may or may not have a choke.

If the car is fine then what is her problem. If she doesn't want it she shouldn't of even had it off you to start with, and now shes got it she should get rid of it!

Grey smoke? out the back? not getting mixed up with cold morining exhaust condensation?

Rover tried to perfect the carb and cat together, certainly thats the case on the mini. I think it was the same on the metro and you continued to have a carb on the lower end models till 1995!
