Need to get my transit van sprayed, and get the few rust patches removed etc prior to spraying. Not worried about all the engine bay / door sills etc, just needs a nice clean white on the outside.

Where is there in the Uxbridge / Heathrow area I can take it?

I've tried Yell etc but can't seem to find what I want.

I helped my dad paint his Escort van.

With a tin of Dulux pure white emulsion and a couple of rollers.

For a work beater, it didn't come out too badly.

There's no real point in spending out up to £1000 on a paint job on a Transit van.

my dad used to apply paint to cars with a paint brush and then just use some fine wet and dry to smooth it down. Clear varnish after that and it always looked ok!

Ok so just assuming that I paint it myself, surely I can't use emulsion. I mean, what about round areas like the back door hinges. It would just peel away and then rust like crazy. A layer of varnish won't help these bits surely? Anyway, surely you can't just paint a van with emulsion lol?

The last thing I want is for it to look like an old skip. Any idea how to solve the problem with the rear door hinges.

You can paint pretty much anything with a gloss mini-roller. If you really want to fuss about it, sort the rust, then apply some stone chip (the proper stuff that get's you high, not the carp you get at halfrauds), THEN put a good think layer of paint.

You can use Hammerite, use the rough finish stuff for the sills and the lower 6 inches of the panels, ten the smooth stuff for the rest.

There are other brands of paint but i can't remember any of them! (tecaloid anybody?)

I painted my pick up with a coat of emulsion about 3 months ago, just don't bother about the rust, the paint will cover it up nicely. Here's what it looks like now. Good as new.

Dude, that's so... Rat. :D

Tractor paint and a brush works well apparently...

Any bodyshop should sort you out or tell you someone who will, sure the yellow pages will have something..
