Trying to wire a car stereo without using an iso connedtor to a battery, and cant figure out to get the thing working. Sounds so woefully simple but i cant get it.

I've got a yellow cable which is marked positive, and a red which i presumed negative but it wont come to life.

I have a black cable, which is earth, a blue/white which is a auto attena relay, a yellow/black which is mute and then the four speaker wires.

Am I missing a trick here?

The Red/Yellow are both positive, the black is earth (goes to negative side of the battery)
One of the positives will be 'constant' the other switched with the ignition.

Ive seen the red/yellow switched in various cars, although that probably goes against the default ISO layout.

Actually, it varies - in most I've come across the orange was switched but have seen some the other way around

Wicked. Cheers guys. The wiring diagram I have is where I got the info from, but obviously not reading it properly (i.e. being a retard). Thought the black might go to negative, but wasn't sure. I'll give it a go.

Black being negative is pretty standard for any DC wiring really

VW

Black = ignition
Brown = ground

Vauxhall

Black = ignition
Brown = ground

There is no standard colour in a cars wiring.. Each make/model is different

You should have memory live, live and negative coming from the engine. Use a voltmeter to test which is which, wire up accordingly.

Thats how i've always done it, no need for guessing or arguing which is which.
