Car Tax and Insurance Renewal problem

My GF's tax ran out yesterday on March the 31st. This year, she's sticking with her current insurers, who sent her a renewal notice - the renewal date is today (1st of April). On the renewal note, it says the certificate will follow in the post a few days after the renewal date - meaning she doesn't have a current certificate of insurance to use when renewing her tax.

Short of going back in time to last weekend and doing it then, is there a workaround, or does she have to chance parking up in town with an out of date disc until the new certificate comes through the post.

There's no way of getting a tax disc without an insurance certificate or cover note.
Ask the insurers to send a cover note out by special delivery so you'll have it next working day.

If you have the new type of MOT certificate you might be able to order one online but I don't know how long that will take to come through. I've also never done this so not 100% sure how it works.

Cheekily when this happened to me I got the ins company to fax or email (I forget which) a copy of the covernote, took it in the post office and they didn't say anything
