As title really

My dad sold my old car on my behalf and the guy collected it on monday.

I was paying monthly for the tax so was wondering if this will end and sort itself out when the logbook is recieved /changed over or do i need to do something else.

Thanks!

Literally the first result on Google :): https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-refund

DVLA website said:
You automatically get a vehicle tax refund by cheque for any full months remaining when you tell DVLA that your car, motorbike, lorry, bus or other vehicle has been:

- sold or transferred
- scrapped at an automated treatment facility
- exported
- taken off the road and you’ve made a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)
- given an exempt duty tax class

yea I did see that, but by "tell the DVLA" does that mean contact them directly or does sending off the log book count?

there is a way to cancel it but it requires the log book number which I don't have now as dad sent it off lol

just not sure if im doing anything wrong or am going to lose out in some way

"You automatically get a vehicle tax refund by cheque for any full months remaining when you tell DVLA that your car ... sold or transferred"

"Your vehicle must be registered with DVLA. The refund will be sent to the person named on the V5C registration document (log book)."

From these two statements I would assume it is done automatically :)

If you where paying monthly just cancel the direct debit at the bank and send the V5 off as normal! That's what I done a few months back

I sent that yellow slip away to the DVLA and the trader kept the rest of my V5 document, so I don't have the Document Ref No - which you need on the website.

Do I just have to wait for the DVLA to do it automatically?

Yes. Even if you tell them now, the DD payment will probably have already been initiated and you're not getting it back.

As long as he has notified them this month they cant take next months

If however its a car where the month Road tax is next to nowt I'd simply just not worry.

They will have already taken it, that's what I'm saying. The DD payment is initiated a day or two before it goes out, you need to give more notice to cancel.

this is the issue i have so i guess from the answers here is that yea the dvla will sort it now

im not fussed about losing a DD payment just dont want it to carry on longer than it needs to
