Hey,

On saturday my best friends car was stolen. He informed the police and they said they'd keep an eye out etc. Today another friend of mine saw this car being driven by 2 chavs. Followed it to a house nearby and then rang my mate whos car it was.
They both jumped in and drove the car back to my friends house where they rang the police. The police said he shouldn't have taken it back and it would be hard to get a conviction. Even though there are various cigarette packets which my mate hasn't touched, to get prints from. I'd expect it to be simple.

So, my questions are:

Would you have stolen your car back?

What the hell are the police playing at? It's his property he should be allowed to take it back.

If the police can't do anything. What else can be done?

Cheers,
Ash

But why?
It's his. The contents weren't insured. So he risked losing baout 2ks worth of CDs and other stuff. Next time he saw it could have been burnt out in a field...

With respect how silly do you have to be to keep £2000 worth of CD's in your car?

I mean thats gotta be what 200 albums? Thats insane, where does he fit them all? Has he not heard of getting an mp3 head unit?

He had come back from uni. There was about 200 CDs yeah...
He can't afford a MP3 head unit at the present time. This is a CD collection he's built up over years...
They were in a big CD case. Like one with loads of pages.

why didn't they jjst ring the police when they was at the house ?

Because, how long were thy going to be there for?
The police round here aren't the fastest bunch.
Took them 3 days to get to my mates house after they were robbed.
He wanted HIS stuff back.

Well, the police came round and took prints. Took away the fag packet etc.
That took them about 4 hours. So presumably the thieves would have left by then.
People saying mess with the engine/tyres etc. What if the chavs would have noticed?
Presumably they would have come out and been a little angry...

Hopefully they won't be able to memorise the plate like. Otherwise there'll be repurcussions when they see it parked a few streets away...

Strange thing is. Nothing was stolen. And only a bit of petrol was gone...

There was a DVD player in the boot FFS. If I had stolen a car I'd have taken that...

It was stolen from quite far away. Just a wierd coincidence it ended up 2 streets away from his house :|
Strange!

That is very strange indeed. Does your mate live in a well "dodgy" area?

<edit> surely if its yours and registered to you its not stealing its recovering. :p

Nope it's a nice area :|
Doesn't make sense at all

i'd have loved to have seen the looks on their faces after they went out to the car to find it was gone though :)

I like to imagine that they waved their fists in the air and shouted, 'why I oughtta!' :p .

1. Yes it was his to take back if he wanted to
2. It has certainly dashed any hope of a conviction against the thieves
3. Any such conviction would most likely have been worthless anyway and resulted in a couple of hours of community service for the perpetrators
4. Frankly I wouldn't want a stolen car back no matter what condition it was in, I'd rather they burnt it out and I got a nice shiny new one :D

But he'd lose his no claims. Which is very important at 19.
Next premium would have been a joke...
