Car to commute - sub £2000

Quite a change to a 182 mind. Totally different cars. Keep the 182 you will be very silly to let it go for a 318i or a Tractor Mondeo.
 
I've been doing a similar thing for years but seeing you already have a reasonably efficient car I don't think you will see any benefit at all.

Your £2k run about will probably end up costing you more money to run.
