Ok, first things first, its done 103000 miles, and i havent had the 100000 mile service. Serves me right. Anyway, i set off today after doing 20+ miles, put it into first, up to 3000rpm (1.9 gt tdi, a little higher than i would normally change gears), put it into 2nd, released the clutch, accelerated, then something sounded like it snapped under the passenger side - definately at the front, under the bonnet. The car kept revving, but releasing the clutch makes a horrible grinding sound.

Anyway, an hour later my dad arrived to tow me to the garage - when he towed me, he said it was like i had the brakes on. Also, there was a terrible sound coming from the bonnet (same location it sounded like) of something scraping against the ground. I looked under the car and there was nothing scraping. I looked in the engine, not knowing much and it being dark i didnt see anything strange.

Any offers on what it might be? It still has the same feel to the clutch, it will 'engage' a gear but it grinds on release and it wont actually go forwards or backwards. There were no strange smells, like burning or anything.

Help :(

in neutral it makes no sound, even if i press in the clutch. towing in neutral made the clunking sound though.

car says no tbh :(

I think it may be the gear box too. Im thinking £300+ :(
