Guys,

Question, how thick is a tyre from the outer tread to the tube?

Just run over a screw which was about 6mm long, would it have gone through? seems ok but wanna check? ;)

Surely that depends on the amount the tyre has worn. If a tyre has 8mm of useful tread then surely there would be more rubber and less chance of a 6mm nail breaking through the tyre.

I just had a screw taken out that was 12mm from the Volvo tyres, it didn't leak but I had them plug it anyway, they had the wheel off and where going to charge me a fiver or another ten to plug it, on the basis that it often ruins tyres running them flat if it ever leaked I got it plugged

Cool, tyre is still up this morning and it is only 4 months old and i have only done about 1K maybe just over so it should be ok. cheers for the info.

take it to your local independant tyre fitter, they can tell you for sure if it has gone through (or close enough to risk a burst later).

They will plug it for you for a small fee, I usually pay about a tenner (I seem to get a lot of screws in my tyres, maybe someone hates me :p)

If it's not gone through yet it could do eventually. As the tyre wears the pub will be pushed further into the tyre canvas.
