Car "using" water

Most of you know the story with me... Just got an Nice R6 andneed to go budget on a car for a few months.
Well...
I think I am Buying a corsa of a dizzy blonde (GF's mate) for £200.
Its in decent conition, few scratches here and there, and the paintis well faded, but it has 10 months MOT and tax!! :cool:

She says the only problem she knows of is that is "uses water" she says it needs topping up every now and again or it gets hot! lol.

I havn't had a proper look at the engine yet, but do I assume this is Head gasket? Even so, I am reasonably handy, and know a couple of mechanics, reckon I could do the HG on the cheap.

Its a 1.2 corsa and has done 102000 miles.
 
Any car with 10months MOT and TAX is worth more than £200.

I would buy it. Give it a thorough clean and a nice polish and flog it, or drive it until it dies. If you can do the work yourself and the parts are relatively cheap then DIY mechanics :)
 
Just because it needs topping up now and again doesn't mean it's the HG surely? There could just be a leak somewhere, or a faulty water pump.

For £200 I would go for it.
 
Could be a leaking radiator mate. Start her up with water in the system and have a look around following the coolant pipes. Should easily be able to spot a leak if its using water fast.

Give it a good rev and see if any of the coolant comes out the exhaust.
 
thats what I mean,its got tax and MOT, all it is for is getting me to work when it rains so I will just run it untill it dies, its got the MOT to last it past the winter anyway.the GF will be driving very shortly, she is about to book her test, so I will only need a car for when the weather is bad.

will do, I'll check for mayo and whitish smoke obviously, if there is none I'll check rad/pipes. if there is then Ill do the head gasket,I have done one on a 1.2 punto, successfully so if I get stuck I can always shout across the road to my mate.

Dont mind spending on the bike, only the best for my lovely R6, thecar will get skimped on!.

Ona side not, what canI name my lovely 04 reg blue R6 (see other thread), not feeling very creative today!
