Am I way off the mark here?

Trying to get rid of the GFs old Clio.

It's had a few issues, all resolved now and mechanically and bodywork wise is ticking over fine.

Its in ebay, PH classifieds, local paper, free ads and AutoTrader and I've not had one enquiry yet. Not one.

I not in a rush for the cash, but I would have thought someone would have popped up with a sneaky offer (I'm prepared to take £1k or above in offers).

Can't seem to link for some reason:

Clio II, RXE 1.6, 61500 miles, 1999, £1400 (this is pretty much the top spec Clio, Electric everything, aircon, sunroof, PAS, etc)

1.6 Clio, defies the whole point of buying a Clio as engine is too big!

Stick it up for a grand and take no offers.

Edit: does it have plenty of tax and MOT?

The engine a problem, the vast majority of people in the market for an 11 year old, £1000 Clio don't want the insurance/fuel/tax costs associated with the 1.6 litre engine.

People will filter for small hatchback and smaller than 1.4, it's neither good enough for a second/third or proper car, not slow enough for a first car.

I'd suggest it's a tad expensive, when looking in this market kids really don't care if it's got electric rear windows - spec really doesn't matter in this market only condition.

It sounds a little steep to me. Try shedding £200 off the price (to get it below what the dealers are charging for similar cars) and see where that gets you.

I agree with that and would say it is a similar story with all small cars despite the price bracket. We just bought a Grande Punto Eleganza and despite the car being less than two years old an Eleganza with all the toys carried very little premium over the lesser specced models.
