Hi there,

I'm intending on doing a few runs this year so would like to figure out some way of recording videos of them. Does anyone have any experience in doing this - preferably on a budget?!

I'm not too sure yet whether I want an externally mounted camera, or an internal one. I was considering a cheap bullet cam, recording to a laptop via a composite -> USB device? How about a cheap camcorder?

I don't want the quality to be amazing, just presentable.

Any ideas?

on a budget i wouldnt go for strapping anything expensive on the outside, id strap a camcorder inside the windscreen. Oh and its always nice to have a microphone in the engine bay :D

I had my video camera mounted on a tripod and wedged in place on my front seat for a recent meet.

With the seat back positioned as far forward as it could go, it was pushing on the movement arm of the tripod. I then strapped the seatbelt around the front of the tripod and it was VERY steady.

By far the easiest method.

Cheers for the replies so far. I don't have a camcorder and I'm a bit unwilling to go and buy one just for this :p

I'm assuming though that the cheapy ones (<£150) aren't worth going for? I don't want to end up with something that looks like a 320x240 webcam :D

Make yourself a headrest mount for under a tenner

My camera was given to me. I was asked by a friend at work to copy some tapes onto DVD, and when I told her that the battery was knackered, she said I could keep it as she had a DV camera.

After buying a new battery, the camera works fine. It's a Hi8 Canon jobbie, but capturing from the camera to my capture card, and the quality is actually pretty good.

Better than a 320x240 webcam image anyway :p

I'd look into getting a cheap (but decent) video camera. Hell, mine doesn't even have a colour viewfinder.

I think I've got a huge Sony Hi8 camera which doesn't record to tape and has a shagged battery. Maybe I should pipe the output of that to a laptop, and run it off a cheapo invertor

Ghetto, yo'

Build a CarPC... take the video camera apart.... strip the tape mechanism out... mount it somewhere in the car... sorted

Alternatively, get a Polaroid and drive very, very slowly.
