looking to widen the black border on my case window
anyone used vinyl wrap to do this?
guessing it will easily stick to glass?
main reason is to hide led strips from view
so one question would be
is vinyl going to block the light enough
and another is how well the joints at the corners are hidden
guessing again doing 45 degree joints would be better
and probably more important
how difficult is it to apply the vinyl
in a dead straight line on the glass?

thanks

I've considered blacking out a border on my glass for similar reasons. I didn't consider vinyl, I was thinking of masking the glass and spraying it.

With vinyl you could apply wide vinyl and use a straightedge and sharp knife to gently cut a straight line.

Not sure how I'd handle corner joins but I imagine car wrap can rub down pretty flat where it overlaps.

i just thought car door trim vinyl
usually a few inches wide
so dont need a huge sheet or anything it comes
in a roll
probably cheaper than spray paint
plus i was worried spray would also need lacquer
to prevent accidental scratches
the door vinyl you can also get in black but
with coloured edges
might look quite good to match your build colours
rather than just plain black

was thinking of overlapping at the corners
then cutting through both layers at once
at a 45 degree angle?

If you got a car wrapping place nearby pop in and see if they have any left overs scraps ( they always have left overs )

Partially wrapped my pc and had a choice of colours as you can see from the pic. Thought fuscia pink would be a tad...eerrrrm pink :D

If its a flat piece you are wrapping then it it won't be too bad to do at all. If you struggle then use a heat gun, just makes it more plyable and easier to work with.

No car wrapping place near me
But tbh a cheap roll of door sill protector vinyl
Is under a fiver anyway including prime delivery
For 5cm/2 inches approx wide by 5m long
Or 7cm/about 2.75 inches wide by 3m long

I know there's more expensive stuff too
But since its not for the case itself
Happy to try some cheap stuff

@LuckyBenski
Thought of spraying from the inside
But on my glass panel it would look weird
Since the existing black border is visible on the outside
Vidar also suggested black poster paint
Not sure how that would look as its a matt finish
But he says you can easily remove it
I also found something called black peelable glass paint
Made partly from recycled plastic
And can as the name implies peel it off when dried if want to

First attempt so yes it could be better
I just eyeballed it couldn't find something long enough with a straight edge
Or a spray bottle
Would definitely recommend spray with water with couple drops of washing up liquid in it
as the overlap at the corners it sticks to itself like hell
Meant I couldn't peel back to remove the second piece of my 45 degree cut without stretching the vinyl
but yeah it does work
got enough for a fiver to try 2 maybe 3 times
even with very bright leds on white
it doesnt shine through at all
