*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

Current supplies of cleaning products are running low, so curious to know which ones are better than what I'm currently using on the usual washes:
  • Auto Finesse - Dynamite Traffic Film Remover
  • Autobrite Magi Foam
  • Meguiar's Gold Class Carwash Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer
  • Meguiar's Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Tire Shine
Is it worth getting some Bilt Hamber to replace the Autobrite?
The magifoam has lasted 5 years with a 5L can so happy to spend a bit more on quality products!

I just use BH Touch-Less at about ~60-70ml in a 700ml bottle for foam cannon use, no real need for a TFR, and if I get really heavy/greasy dirt just pre-spray with some Surfex-HD at the appropriate concentration. It's pretty cheap for 5L but not sure if low cost per was is one of your goals.

Will give BH Touch-Less a try then. Happy with the foaminess of Magi Foam but everyone bangs on about BH. Cost isn't an issue, but all this stuff seems to be priced around the same. I'll shop around in any case

question of whether the price is right - have only a third or so, of a bottle of touchless left and I'll get some more when there's an offer near the £7 I payed 18 months ago,

Auto Finesse - lather Shampoo - was good for cleaning the house windows too, this weekend, stuff isn't very good for you hands though I guess I need marigolds.

Can I use Iron Fallout Remover on my polished rims? I'm scared... but it looks like they need it!

As long as you follow the instructions and don't let it dry they should be fine. I prefer using a gel version for longer dwell time, like Autoglym Advanced Wheel Cleaner, it also acts as a normal wheel cleaner.

i'll eventually get there with these cars. Next is the parcel shelf and dog hair, and a detail inside, oh and air con bomb.

Just picked up the new car and foolishly went for one with a beige interior which looks great at the moment.

I wouldn’t mind applying some kind of protective coating to it (vegan leather) but with the fronts having ventilated seats I imagine I need to be careful to avoid blocking the pores?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Geist is decent, so is Gtechniq

Guys, I tried to take a picture of my whiskey glass an have noticed all the scratches in my desk - can I use a DA and some compound (I have some CarPro 2 Fixer Nano) on this?

It is a glass desk that my parents gifted me when I graduated, so it is like 20 years old - but very thick.

I'm no expert but I would have thought that you might need to be careful polishing glass due to the heat generated risking expansion and cracking?
I know car windows get polished but i think it might need a slow process to allow heat to dissipate?

ah yes ok that makes sense. I have both a long throw 21mm 6" and a short throw 12mm 3" DA - reckon if I keep speeds on 1/low and use the 6" 21mm machine with no real pressure I should keep heat minimal? But then will I actually cut? Shall I use a wool pad with a medium cut abrasive? Or perhaps even 3k wet sanding first?

I've finally got around to ordering a stubby gun, karcher FJ6 bottle adapter for said gun and a 15m replacement hose. Should cut down car cleaning time as I'm currently using the Polar Blast series of products and been dragging the pressure washer around the driveway getting all tangled up like an idiot

I've invested in trying to improve my setup to save time so also looking to replace the Polar Blast series when it runs out, I think I might just go back to turtle wax snow foam, no diluting and I think I can just use it as a pre wash and rinse before applying again for a contact wash to save time swapping bottles, and water. I can't help but think about the amount of water I get through applying 3 products to 2 cars

Arrives today and I'm excited to try it out but it rains all weekend after a nice week of weather stuck in the office!

You’ll need cerium oxide to remove scratches in glass, with a rayon pad.

You’d also only ever work on small areas, not a whole glass table top.

You will generate a lot of heat so to do the whole thing you’d take most of the day.

Use the smaller polisher and work in sections.
