So as I jump in to go to work this morning, my trusty Fabia didn't start. The engine just rolled over. I assume it's the battery, so will try jumpstart tonight and then hope for the best. And it was booked in for a service as well today :(
if it is the battery - will I be ok to just recharge or time for a new battery? Battery is 7.5 year old (been with car since brand new).

Engine rolled over? As in it turned but didn't start?

Whilst it could be the battery, it's more likely not to turn over if it's borked.....

yeah i turned ignition half way and radio etc all came on, then turned fully to switch on and it made it's sounds but didn't start and display for mileage etc on screen faded out, radio went off with message saying SAFE on it. tried few times but didn't start at all.

Grab some jump leads and a neighbour and see if you have any luck starting it.

P.S It would help if the neighbour also brought a car

haha. that's what im going to do tonight when i get home and then go from there. If I do need battery replacement - can I just buy from AA/RAC etc and get them to fit (of course I know it will cost me more but at least I don't have hassle of replacing etc myself)?in other words any idea of battery quality and service from AA/RAC etc?

Last time my car failed to start I checked it with a multimeter reader to confirm it was the battery.

Then looked online and bought a battery to be delivered which I managed to work out how to put in via google and youtube videos.

You had to look on youtube on how to change a battery??????????

Christ, I learnt how to change a car battery in the Scouts!

I flooded the injectors recently by moving the car 10 metres. Battery was okay.

Foot on the accelerator in neutral and turn the engine over. Starts eventually once the injectors dry.

edit: Apparently not the injectors which get flooded, which i guess makes sense. Spark plugs?

They fit for free but you pay RRP for the battery.

Batteries are SUPER easy to fit, it's generally just a case of un-doing two nuts form the battery terminals and then un-doing whatever is actually holding the battery in place.

Believe it or not lots of people don't actually know how to change car batterys.

Heck even you had to learn how to do it in the scouts.

I just opened the bonnet, saw it was attached with 2 leads and used common sense! :p

It is better to be safe than sorry. The way the battery is fitted in OP's car is a bit awkward compared to some other cars to be fair. :p

Lots of covers and clips and bolts and nonsense.

Anyway OP, did you get it started? :)

This happened to my sister's car. Everything that you described. Jumped it and the car started. Didn't want to take any risk so put a new battery in and everything is now hunky dory.

To be fair I bow to your superior knowledge, I don't know Fabia's, so just presumed it'd be fitted in by a couple of bolts :( Anyway I hope you got it fixed buddy, it's never good when your car lets you down, hopefully it was a relatively easy fix and cheap fix ;)

yeah finally got it started by AA and battery was only running at 41amps. wasn't charging at all. Got AA to replace battery at a cost of £100. I'm happy with that as of course I pay more for fitting but it was done for me. It was awkward even for the AA guy to remove and replace the battery cover.
only thing now is windows have lost 1 touch operation.

OK, this thread is interesting... It's like reading mumsnet trying to repair a computer.

Your window module needs resetting, drop each window all the way down and then hold the button down for 10s, then raise each window up and hold the button up for 10s. This should reset everything and get the windows working properly again.

p.s. You can't flood an injector, they only work when full of fuel.
