Well long story short, beginning of march my car was vandalised, every panel keyed incl headlights, bonnet jumped on and a tyre slashed. Insurance have said its a CAT C write off. Theyve made me a couple of "offers" but ive rejected them as laughable and i have to phone them again tomorrow and hopefully get a satisfactory amount. Anyway theyve told me a price i cna purchase the car back from them, its still sat on my drive after i refused to let the salvage yard collect it until id recieved a settlement i was happy with.
Ive decided to keep the car and repair her, mechanically shes sound but obviously needs a bit of work cosmetically. With the car being a CAT C write off it needs to be reMOT'd (it passed its MOT a week before the incident) so should pass that flying colours. However this is my first problem, my then insurers of the car told me i could continue using the car until the engineers report had been submitted, once it was submitted and officially declared as a CAT C i was told i had to stop driving it as it wouldnt be insured. So the question is can i drive my dads car (i have DOC on my replacement car with a different insurer) to tow my car (with my dad in it) to the MOT station using a metal towbar? My dad has DOC too.
Next question, the Vehicle ID Check (VIC) station isnt very local and is about a 50mile round trip. The info on the DVLA website says
That indicates a written off car can be driven to the VIC centre aslong as the person driving is insured to do so, does this mean my dad can drive my car to the VIC test centre? Does DOC cover allow ppl to drive a CAT C written off car to MOT and VIC test centres? Once its all "legal" again i can start driving it to bodyshops for repair quotes!
Cheers

Taking the car for a VIC
repairs must be conducted and the car must be roadworthy and capable of being driven under its own power
if over 3 years old, the car must be covered by a valid MOT if it is to be driven to the VIC
the person driving the car must be insured to do so
the car must display front and rear number plates if it is to be driven to the VIC. For assistance in obtaining number plates, contact VOSA on 08706 060 440
a car can be driven directly to and from a pre-arranged VIC without road tax
