Hi,

It seems that accident management companies are now more tightly regulated than before, and it's not a simple case of getting a replacement following a write-off of a car.

My friend's car was written off in an accident, and he's in need of an explanation on what the best course of action is. Does anyone know what the best accident management firms are et cetera and what his rights are?

Thanks!

If the car has already been decided as written off is it not too late to involve an accident management company? They need to be involved right at the start

If his car has been written off then presumably he is now being sent a cheque for its value, therefore the responsibility to provide a hire car ends.

Write off is an insurance term, do you mean he's just had an accident and has yet to have the car assessed? That changes it a bit.

Well, the accident happened just this morning. It hasn't 'officially' been written off by the insurance company, but it's safe to assume it'll be written off. It's beyond repair.

First of all is it clear that fault lies with another party? Also is the case fairly simple ie not some 5 car pileup? If not you'll be unlikely to get any interest from claim management companies.

You haven't mentioned another party so I'll speculate and pick a common accident at the moment. Your mate was driving along a country road, hit a patch of ice and ended up on his roof in the adjacent field.

His course of action is to call up his insurance and they'll arrange to have the car recovered and assessed. They will also let him know if he is due a courtesy car while waiting for the repair/write off. He can double check in his insurance documentation if they say no.
