Ok, it would appear that my card has died :(

I am currently running the system in sig.

I have looked at the x1950 pro but am unsure as to my systems capability to use the card to its potential or if it would be more cost efficient to purchase a lower spec card and save the money.

I am unable to afford an upgrade to PCI-e atm unless someone is able to find me a spec for about £200.

Which card would you suggest?

It is AGP i'm after yes.

Price range is anything upto £200 although the lower the better as an upgrade will be due later in the year.

Seems everyone really likes the X1950pro.

Is there much of a difference between the x1950 and a x1600?

Also, is it worth going for a 512mb card rather than a 256?

Huge difference between the 1600 and 1950. Also, 256mb should do you fine but it's up to you which you go for as the prices really aren't all that different!

Sure you'll enjoy whichever you choose to get! :D

Plus, if you watercool it and you're lucky enough to get a good one you should get a real nice clock out of it!

gt

Edit: I agree with HangTime!

x1950pro is miles better than an x1600 - imo it's the only card worth buying on the AGP platform.

As for the memory thing, it depends on the price difference. I certainly wouldn't pay more than an extra £20 for the 512meg version.

That said, the 512meg version does fall well within your budget and since it's unlikely that you will be upgrading again on the AGP platform it might be worth pushing the boat out to get a card that will last that little bit longer.

Apparently it very much depends on what games you play. Shader heavy games like Doom3 and Quake4 benefit from the extra memory at high settings.
