Couldnt find my old post and the search is disabled sooo

PV-T71P-UDP, 7900GS this card is currentlyu being offered as a replacment from XFX for my PV-T71G-UDER which is a 7900GT XXX version, the highest clocked one at the time.

I ran 2 of the 7900gt XXX's in sli until 1 failed and there struggeling to find a replacment XXX version

Much difference between the GS and GT ?

I would prefer the exact same so i might just wait a while

Whats your thoughts ?

Cheers

Don't accept the GS as its slower than the GT, so thats effectively a downgrade, they have to give equal or better performance. :)

Just had a quick look on toms hardware charts. There isn't a huge difference (i was thinking 7900 gtX and then there is) but seems a poor offer by them. I've seen similar threads where people have been offered an 8800 gts which probably costs a similar price to what you paid for the 7900gt. Either way, might be the end of your SLI setup. I say, try and get an 8800 out of them :D

Thing is i was running 2x7900gt's XXX versions in SLI, so me getting a 8600gt as a replacment basically condems that SLI setup right ?

What would be equalish to the 2X7900GT's ? a 8800GT ?

Well, you can kiss your SLI setup goodbye.

As i see it you have 2 options..

See if you can get an 8600GTS as a replacement.
Then sell it & your other 7900GT & buy a 8800GTS / 2900XT.

Or tell the manufacturer nothing they have offered will help you with your SLI & see if they are prepared to take both of your cards (send your good card to them too) for a single 8800GTS replacement. Though this option will only be done with their goodwill, as they are not really obligated to do this for you.

I would take the 8800GTS if they are prepared to do that. Should give a fair amount of improvement over the 2x7900's.

Hi again guys

Here's what they are currently offering me and looks like all there going to offer me, a PV-T84J-UDD its a 8600GT apparently beeter than my 7900GT XXX Xtreme and also DX10.

I presume this is a likable swap ?

If you overclocked the snot out of the 8600GT it might, might! be able to come up to the 7900GTX performance and that's if you're extremely lucky. Yes, the 8600 is DX10, Can do HDR and AA together and has better image quality but it doesn't have the raw power of the 7900GTX and most certainly not the XXX version. I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm fairly positive.

Crap deal IMHO, ask them to up the offer?.

As said above, due to a quirk of NVidia's pricing/dev polocies, all the 8600 cards and below are slower than the equivalent 7900 cards.

At the very least, they should be offering two 8600GTs in SLi, with your spare 7900GT for you to sell.

Taking the 'same or better' rule, 8800 GTS 320MB is the logical choice.

It's a 7900gt not gtx

I have already asked for the option of a 8800gts, but they stated they do not offer an upgrade service lol

A 7900GT XXX is comparable to a 8800GTS 320MB, a 8600GT is a midrange card comparable to a 7600GT

Off course cards get faster as a new generation is introduced but I would not agree to get a current midrange card as a replacement for a later generation (almost) top end card.

GF 8600GT 620M 256MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCI-E XXX. Core is 620 and memory clock is 1.6Ghz and shader clock is 1355

There saying that, our tests showed a better benchmark than PV-T71G-UDE 7900GT XXX

They seem to be pushing this on me now... i think, i dont really know what to say back, i need something to back up my story a little i suppose, is there any comparisons on the net anywhere ?

I understand what you guys are saying just hard conveying it to them :/

Cheers guys and much appreciated

Start from this page in this translated thread. The next page links are at the bottom. Have a good read through that. Maybe even show XFX it if they need proof that the card isn't good enough.

http://translate.google.com/transla...8600GT+vs+7900GT&start=10&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N

You will have to go back two pages to see the benchmarks from the start. I've only looked at a few but it's already showing that XFX are trying to rip you off. Don't let them!!!!!.

A 8600GTS is said to be on par with a 7900GS (most reviews) and obv its DX10, so there is no way a 8600GT is a fair swap for a 7900GT, esp a XXX model.
