Card for £150-£180?

How does a 7950 compare to the 270x? (assuming you can get one for the normal price once the mining hype dies down)

It's a fair bit better (not a major difference at stock) then the 270X and a 7950 with a decent overclock can really pull away from a 270X.

The 270X should have ideally been the same specs as the 7950 (would accept if it was aroind £200 instead of £150-180) but instead AMD have used a cheaper 256bit bus and 2GB memory and the core is in the same family as the 7870.

ATI over NVIDIA in that price bracket then? I'm a bit out of touch. Any significant benefit from stretching the budget a little bit?

With the premium that Nivida charge they strugle to compete well with Amd at anything but the top end of the market. Nivida still have some good cards on offer but the reality is that amd value really kicks in at this price point

Yup the Nv760 is a good performer compared to the 270x, with the Nv660 being behind it. Nvidia would need to drop the 760 by £20 to make it really competitive, as it is, it is just that little bit too expensive.
