Card for a new build

In my the main forum I've had some superb help with parts for a new build and such.

Having slightly revised my budget I've found I perhaps have a little more room for spending. The graphics card that seems to fit the £700-800 mark every time is the Geforce 560ti 1gb card, which indeed does look to be a great card.

I'm wondering though, is there anything slightly above this particular card that would perhaps warrant spending a little extra on now that I have around £40-80 more than my original budget?

I am a keen gamer, and naturally BF3 is the heaviest hitter I'm planning for, but gaming aside I do a lot of video editing on a 27" monitor.

I think he thought you meant 7-800 just for the GFX, I can see why :)

GTX 560Ti 1GB is good. Especially at the 160 pricepoint.

The 6950 2GB or 560ti 2GB is what i'd get though. Just for the extra VRAM. (Since you have the extra cash)

Well I wouldn't really say I have a specific budget for the graphics card, just require it to fit into the rest of the build for about the £700-800. IF the 560ti cards tend to be about 170-200 then I guess I could go up to around 240 if there was a card that warranted that little extra.

6950 :) Great value for money and the 2GB memory will help you!

Although most games dont go above the 1GB VRAM usage some are starting to (cant say i have monitored a lot really). Its nice to have headroom though!

Always go for the best you can afford, save kicking yourself a couple of weeks in when you realise limitations!

+1, I have 2 6950s clocked at 950/1375, @ 2560x1600 in BF3, I'm pulling over 3GB VRAM usage (1.5GB per card).

That doesn't mean the game needs 3GB to run thought. A lot of that will turn out to be just caching, especially if he's planning on running at less than 1200p.

Based on all the benchmarks I've seen I really, really don't see the point in going to 2Gb one one of the upper mid-range cards like the 560Ti/6950. People will talk about futureproofing but realistically by the time more than 1gb is necessary at 1080p or whatever, the rest of the card will be so outdated it won't be able to make use of the extra vram.
