I have an mITX office machine with an i3 4330, H81i-plus board and a GTX 570 currently running a 1080p screen off a 450w psu.

I don't game on this machine (much) and basically only use it for MS Office, web, vids, photos etc.

My eyesight is getting a little, fussy with age and I am going to upgrade the screen to 1440p (Dell UltraSharp U2515H).

The input on this monitor is a mini display port (no DVI input). The screen comes with a display port to mini display port cable only, and the old GTX 570 is sadly missing both.

I was therefore going to replace the 570 (220w) with a 960 (120w), which would obviously be fine for this purpose, but I suddenly thought that this may actually be overkill, as a 750ti has similar performance to my 570, (which is fine), would save me 50 to 60 quid, and only uses 60w - in the office I like a silent machine, however the power user in me is loath to buy this great little card....

I would appreciate some independent views, what are the OC forum expert views about this? a 750ti, or a 960?

thanks

Martin

I'd get the 750ti although it would still be overkill for an office machine. You could also consider a Geforce 210 and that would also do the job.

Those cards are overkill for office use.

When I buy video cards for media PC (none gaming) I tend to go AMD.

If it was me, I would probably get something from this range.

Get the 2Gb version if you do get one. Just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the replies, the AMD 240's don't have any display port output though, which I think I need, they only have, DVI, HDMI and VGA, which are the same as on my current GTX 570...

I also hate the idea of going 'backwards' so to speak

the onboard gpu will be very quiet..
both that and 570 will support a 1440p desktop...
presumably the 1440p monitor can still game at the existing 1080p?
no purchase required.... save a dvi to mini dp adapter

You could also buy a mini display port to dvi adapter for a few pounds.

But don't you need an active (powered) adaptor in order for that to work or has that issue been ironed out (I remember this being a big deal when the 5870 was launched with eyefinity as most people only had DVI monitors and had to use active adaptors to convert the the DVI port to displayport)?

Maybe just get one of these with one of these (assuming you monitor doesn't come with one)

Why not just go for a plain 750 2gb (£89.99) and save yourself another £20 safe in the knowledge it will provide you with a bit of a gaming experience (much). Anything lower than that or an AMD 270 is pointless unless you do zero gaming @ 1440p

Thank you for all the comments.

I will think on it overnight, (often the best way to enjoy selecting pc components)......
