Card for old system please?

Hi All,

I am looking for a PCI-E graphics card for an old system:

MB: NF4ST-A9
CPU: AMD Athlon 3500+
RAM: 2Gig

Anyways, I am looking for a PCI-E graphics card with the following specs:

Low power requirements.
No PCI-E power connectors from the PSU to the card required.

Passive or fan cooling is OK.

Budget: £50.

Any and all recommendations appreciated.

HD 4650 can be had for around that new.

HD 4670 is a bit more.

yeah 4650/70, they are some of the few cards that don't require additional juice from the PSU these days.

alternatively go for something second hand?

You may want to wait for its refresh, it should be coming out soon (RV740). It may be more expensive though.

the 3870 still performas admirably in nearly all games. the 4670 is basically identical performance. So if you find a 4670 then you're onto a winner. if not then the 4650 is still a very good card and infact would probably be just as good for your system as the CPU is probably limiting you to 4650 performance anyway!

I would go for this with its large memory could provide some really inexpensive eye candy

I know its £22 over budget but it has double the onboard memory of all others in this price bracket

Noo, it has double the memory but its clocked lower. As this is a 128-Bit card it really needs the high clocks to achieve good bandwidth figures.
