I've been asked to source a 1Gb card for a friend. I've been out of the loop for abit but scanning through the forums I get the feeling that the 4850 and 9800GTX are pretty good performers, but they are only 512MB.

This friend has his heart set on a 1Gb card, probably just for bragging rights...So are the cheapo 1Gb cards (9400GT, 9600GT etc) up to much? Can anyone recommend the best 1Gb card sub £120?

For £130 you can get the 4850 1Gb from this very site, its out of stock but at that price it sounds about right. What res is he gaming at?

as per Duroxis depends on what res he games at, but tbh if hes putting it having 1gb over the power of the card you should really bitch slap him, tell him not to be daft and get a 4850 512mb :D

powercolour 4850 1gb is £150, either needs to raise the budget or be sensible and go for the likes of the 4850 512mb.

Gainward GeForce 9800 GT 1024MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £126.49 INC VAT

Probably best 1GB card for as close to the budget you are gonna get. (in the OcUk shop) :)

yep, not much point getting a 1GB 4850 unless gaming on a 22"+. A 512MB one will do you/him very nicely and can be had for under a £100 on MM.
