my X1800 seems to be getting very hot recently and therefore very noisy. It is not overclocked at all but very quickly seems to be getting up to the high 90's and seems to be almost always 70-80 even on 2D. What is the most likely cause of this? My case is pretty tidy inside by the way.....

The most likely thing I an think of is dust clogging the card's cooling system. Beyond that you might wish to investigate to be sure that the cooler is making good contact with the core and memory. You might wish to take it off and reseat it with some AS5 or a similar TIM.

If you reapply the thermal compound you will VOID your warranty. Beware!

Make sure you have good airflow in your case, the cooler on you gfx card will only cool it relative to its surroundings.
