Hi all,

I have just went and bought the NEC MultiSync® LCD20WGX2 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor. Need a new card to go with it.

Looking for some help here. At the moment I am running a Gigabyte nVidia® Geforce 6600 GT Silent Pipe PCI-Express 128MB mem.

How does that compare with cards coming out today? Can I get a better card for about £150 that will make much of a improvement?

Also, what is SLI and what do I need for it? Do I need to PCI Express slots or one PCI Express and one normal PCI and is it better to have SLI?

Many thanks for all your help

Firstly, SLI is running two graphics card with the same chips in them (ie 2x 6600GT) on an SLI motehrboard (both PCI-E).

Secondly, get yourself a 7600GT for around £140 - bang on targetb with your budget and a great upgrade from your current card.

Agreed at the price level the 7600 Gt offers great performance. And with the option of running two in the future if you have a SLI mobo offering fantastic performance.

Or the XFX 7800GT which Overclockers are doing for £187.94 inc vat at the mo - it was down to £176 shortly but you missed out on that - mine arrived today so will let you know how much better it is as I also upgraded from a XFX 6600GT

I think if he looks at the 7800 GT for £188 he should spend the extra 30 quid for the 7900 GT.

The 7800 GT about 7500 3d marks in 05 the 7900 GT around 9500 3d marks.

Also the 7900 GT overclocks great and runs a lot cooler than the 7800 GT.

...but then its a £70 overspend. The OP set a budget of around £150 - I don't think £188 or £220 are around that :P

I know but somehow the incease in performance warrants the extra. If he is stuck to that budget then the 7600 GT is the card to get.

But if he can stetch then I think he should.

iam waiting till thursday then if they drop the price for the bfg 7900gt iam getting that cuz its only a bit more than the 7800gt.

I can stretch if really worth it (one Friday night in rather than in the pub I suppose).

I am running my display at 1650 x 1050 widescreen and if the games can I would love to run them at that res too.
