Greetings.

I'm looking at upgrading to a 34" ultra wide in the near future to run at 1440 max with g-sync or freesync too. What would you guys suggest for gfx card to go with this? Do you think I can get something for less than £250 that could still look half decent in the latest games? I mostly play MMO's but also the odd FPS from time to time.

Cheers!

2560*1440 or 3440*1440?

What FPS do you need?
Do you need to run AAA titles at high settings?

From my recent research I wouldn't go below 1070ti/1080 with a 1080Ti being pretty baller for that resolution.

It does depend on the above factors but don't see a £250 cutting it if it we're ME, for YOU it may be different

Hi, Since getting my Ultrawide 3440x1440 I've used a Fury pro, RX 560, 6gb GTX 1060, GTX1080, Vega64 & an RX470. You can get away with a 1060 or 580 depending on the game and as long as you don't mind dropping settings. At the moment I'm temporarily using a 470 but that's not great as I'm running mostly low settings & low framerates. Thankfully it's only temporarily.

I think a 1070 or Vega 56 should be the minimum.

Sorry I should have said 3440x1440 and I'd be hoping for around 60 FPS on fairly high settings in games like SWBF2 but not at all worried at maxing them out.

I should also have said my PSU is currently only 600W which I'd prefer not to replace if at all possible but I guess it's probably too weak?

A 600 watt psu will be fine for just about anything other than Vega. You can get away with an 8gb RX580 and a decent Freesync monitor, make sure it has low framerate compensation (LFC) support.
All g-sync models have LFC support so again you'll get away with a 6gb GTX1060

Personally I think you should budget higher as the monitor won't be cheap so why hamstring the experience.

That would mean getting a better PSU for Vega though.

I have a Acer x34A 3440x1440p ultra-wide and have a 1080Ti and on the top end AAA titles I just get over 60fps. Some titles are below that. I would be looking at a GTX 1070Ti or higher at the very least.

I have the liquid cooled Vega 64 with a 3440x1440 monitor - worst case scenario in some of the most demanding or most poorly optimised games is an average of around 70 FPS with the very occasional dip in to the late 40s. This is with max settings apart from having motion blur turned off. As others have stated, you will need at least a 1070 or Vega 56 to push 60 FPS at higher settings in aforementioned types of games.

1080 minimum personally and this is one of those rare occasions where a 1080ti really earns its stripes as opposed to mere bragging rights.

If you're thinking of maxxing out settings that is. If you're happy with lower settings then things are different.

Yeh there is a lot of paranoia about PSUs. They work more efficiently too in the 80% power draw range and any decent brand will be able to safely provide over their rated spec for decent durations.

My record from the wall power draw was >900W with a processor at 5ghz and two 680's volt modded and overclocked:D But this is an example to show how you have to go asking for trouble to actually draw anything over 600W really.

I am looking to go to the same res as you hence buying a 1080 just the other day. I guess I wanted the Ti and could afford it but it didn't sit well with me that much on a GPU. Next round of mid to high end cards will beat the 1080Ti anyway. You lose more proportionally when dealing with flagships.
Just drop down from ultra settings as its for showboating only and a massive resource hog, free FPS for you:)

For your res I would get 1070ti/1080 minimum although the 1080ti would be better suited

This is probably the cheapest card I would use at that res msi 1070ti £420

You could use the 1070 if you turn some settings down depends on game though and they not much cheaper still £350

Thanks for all the advice.

So with a vega or 1080 I'd need a new PSU?

1080 will be fine it only average 170w

Not sure about vega though that peaks at like 400w on it's own without anything else.
