are the 4870's going to drop in price even more?
if so when and by how much ?

They might drop a bit when the 4870X2 comes out, but I doubt you'll see a big drop, there's no real reason to drop prices at the moment.

Indeed. I think you are more likely to see GTX 260s drop than the 4870. Ofcourse, if that happens then the 4870 will likely follow suit. As above the 4870X2 will probably mess and then settle the market for a while.

I'd like a cheaper 4870, but keep changing my mind and waiting for price drops...

They wont in the short term, industry analysts and ATI say in hindsight they sold the 4870 too cheap.
