I'm in need of a new card reader. My current one is an all-in-one job in my 3.5" slot but I've got a feeling it's not even USB 2.0 and it takes forever to download images off of cards. At the moment I'm using Sandisk Ultra II CF cards (rated, aparently, at 15MB/s) and it's taking 20 minutes to unload a 4GB card. When I've usually got 4 cards full after a days shooting I'm spending over an hour waiting to get the images and it's really annoying. I've been looking at a Sandisk Extreme Firewire reader but it's a bit on the expensive side when I've only seen it speed tested with Extreme IV cards which are a lot faster than my cards.
Can anyone either suggest other options or tell me that the Firewire reader will speed up my cards and not just the uber-cards?
