Card reader problem

My new laptop has an integrated card reader. Great I thought, I can copy files directly to my 2GB SD card I use in my phone, no more slow activesync transfers for me.

However:
If I format the card in my phone and copy files via ActiveSync the laptop reports the card as unformatted.

If I format the card in my laptop and copy files directly to it my phone can't see them.

Any suggestions?

Is it possible, the card you are formatting needs to be either a FAT32 or NTFS system, where as windows recognises it as storage component, your mobile doesnt recognise the file system in place? I might be altogether wrong though!

It would appear to be some sort of incompatibility with 2GB cards in my laptops card reader. 1GB cards work fine...curious.
