I have about £250 to spare on a new card and I was wondering what you would recommend. I'll also be adding another 1024MB RAM.

AMD64 3500+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
1024MB Corsair DDR 400
Audigy Value SE
250GB Maxtor SataII
550W Eye-T PSU

Thankyou :D

nVidia are releasing a new card on the 8th novermber, its a new generation so it will drive down the prices of all current cards.

Your best off waiting until that has been released for a couple of weeks.

But if you must get one then people say good things about the ATI X1900XT, so any card based on that would be good.

If you want to go a little cheaper then get a 7900 GTO.

Both are good cards and pretty much the best at their respective price points. You could almost strech to the X1950 with your budget but to be honest its not really worth the outlay, especially considering it will be worth much less in a few weeks anyway.

(really would wait until middle of november if i were you!)

:)

Wont drive down prices of current Nvidia cards, and i doubt ATi will drop prices either, G80 is £500 so theres no need for em to drop their prices, and Gibbos already said theres no price drops on current cards from Nvidia when G80 comes out, so ATi wont drop em either. :)

Everybody thinks when G80 hits DX9 cards are gona plummet in price, and be worth nowt, shock coming folks.

MSI 7900 GTO 512mb SILENT, fully fledged GTX, and only about £180, so you may as well save some cash as its a steal that price for a GTX. :)

Wait and youll save £££ (what im doing and im waiting for quad core and im gonna eat up on cheap conroes :) )
Now a 7900GS is pretty good imo. at £250 though a ATI x1900XT (512 meg?) would be on my list!

I don't think it's worth waiting really. As has been said, the dx9 cards probably will not go down in price just because there is suddenly a dx10 card released.

What's the rush on getting a card for dx10 when the software to drive it hasn't even been released?

Also the quad core cpu's have been said to be marketed mainly for server and high end applications.
The fact they are going to be £650 and as gibbo said will not go down in price for some time will also mean the core2duo's will not go down in price. At least not until mid next year when the rumoured 1333 core2duo's are said to be released
The only core2duo that is close to the quad core in price is the extreme aswell, so maybe that will go down in price, but I very much doubt a £130 e6300 will drop it's price much.

ocuk has a few 512 x1900xt`s in the clearance section for about 205? good buy
or the 7900 gto , really just a 7900 gtx with slower clocks , and differaant bios , easily fixed with a flash !
or shop around the might get a x1950xtx for £250!
those are about as good a card range you will get for your cash , all are great cards and will perform well in games
