Hi All,

I'm looking to get the HIS Radeon R9 290 (my old card has died) but I want to check if my system will handle the new card without any problems.

I currently have:
CORSAIR TX750M PSU
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
AMD FX 8350 CPU

My biggest concern is the PSU, will that cause any problems as I've had PSU issues in the past and the overclockers site says 750 PSU required. I had an ASUS HD 7950 before, is the R9 290 worth the upgrade or am I better just replacing the card for an exact match?

Any input welcome!

That's a good point about the warranty, will need to check that out. If I got the new card would I notice much of a difference?

Cheers!

Hi,

One other question, i'm still looking at the R9 290 cards but what is the difference between them e.g.

This one is currently at £307.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-337-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752

but this one is currently at £359.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-321-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1752

Is there any difference in the hardware or is it just down to the "brand" - what would make one card be worth an extra £50?

Thanks again for the advice!

yeah saw the free games, but i've already got them all :(

i think it'll still be the sapphire, 2 years warranty is ok for me and £50 savings is a plus!

Hi guys,

Wondering if you could help. I got the Saphire R9 290 and everything seems to work fine but if I am watching a video in VLC player and browsing at the same time the PC seems to hang every couple of minutes for about 15 - 30 seconds. Is there a problem with the card, not enought power (750W Corsair), VLC player (2.1.1) or could it be something else?

Cheers!
